If you have or have not do you know that you get more money for them. At a cost of 4 or 5 per id, you can make more money on the high 50+ drops.

I don't understand what you are saying. ID'ing white items? You cannot ID whites. they are not rare or anything.

yes you can. just shows that you obviously never ID'd one.
if you id them, you will ID their price for the merch only, but still get a bit more out of it.

I do sometimes, it gets boring and takes a while if you have a full inventory.

I do it all the time. For the cost of 4g, most items jump 20g or more at the trader. Some as high as 50 or 60g more. Of course, once in a while something is only worth 2 or 3g more, but the average is probably above 20g, in my experience.

Of course you can ID white items. It will often increase the value by 10+ g. I've seen the increases get larger and larger the further I get into the game. Seems pretty random though. Sometimes it only raises it by 1 or 2. But I still ID all whites because I need all the gold I can get.
at 1 second per ID for say an average of 20 white items per merchant visit thats 20 seconds. It is a terrible time drain but I guess its worth it to me to spend all that time for an extra ~200 g.

well, dont waste your time ID'ing stuff on the lower level areas, as you might only get a 1g or 2g jump in price. but the higher end areas (Vabbi, FoW, UW, RoT, etc) you will get AWESOME gains in prices. What I usually do, is open up the merch sale tab, look at how much the item is worth, ID it, and see the price difference from the start

As Star Gazer said the jump in price goes up as you get to "higher" level areas, but you can still get shafted with the +1g id increase from stuff in the DOA.
A good rule of thumb is to start identifying after you get off the Noob Islands in Factions and Nightfall. In Prophecies wait until you get to the Northern Shiverpeaks. Unless you hit an incredibly bad streak, after deducting the cost of a normal ID, you will end up with more gold than selling them unidentified to the merchant.

I generally always ID white stuff (or just don't collect it to save storage space.)
As the others said, you get awesome jumps in prices even for white stuff.
I used to do this all the time when I farmed vermin in cantha. 1-2k per run this way is not uncommon.

< never even picks up white items to Id. Slows down your runs.
I rarely even grab purples unless it's a nice skin that can be modded to my req's.

Time is money for me. I'd rather not waste my time ID'ing to get the extra 200-300gp from a full inventory of loot. In the amount of time that it takes to ID all the whites I can be 1/4 of the way into my next farm run depending on what I'm doing.
ID whites, however, does increase the value of white items by 10-20gp on average.

Takes me about a minute for a full inventory. I only bother with high-end areas, but it rewards me with at least 600g more per inventory, minimum, if I identify the whites as well.

Random fact: If you ID a sigil, it will show a merch price between 1001 and 1999 gold. (This has no effect on how much the trader will pay for it, though)

Actually it does sort of. For sigils and runes the price that it identifies to will be the price that the trader gives you for it if that price is larger than the normal minimum price.
i.e. if for some reason the trader started giving less than 1000g for a sigil and you id it to show 1250g then he will give you 1250g.

Sometimes the trader is a while away, something to do while you're running around the outpost.
